Kalamazoo Juvenile Facility

The install was a spec bid for the New Kalamazoo Juvenile Facility in Kalamazoo MI. The system is the multipurpose room AV system. As the room took shape and some of the mechanical systems were getting put into place, it became apparent that the originally specified speakers were not going to be the best fit to provide good sound in the space. Due to the nature of the facility, keeping things high enough out of reach is very important. The mechanical systems would have forced the speaker placement to be lower than was acceptable. To find a solution that could be low profile enough to be high enough off the floor, and mounted just below the mechanical lines, AND provide enough believable bass didn't seem likely with the dollar amount we had to work with. But Enter GAD… The UB2020 speakers were perfect. Remember that this design originally had four 15" drivers in it so the low end would have been solid enough for the application. Using three of the UB-2020s flown in an arched array along the front end of the stage gave us six 10" drivers to push air. I was only slightly concerned, and adding subs was not an option, but when we fired it up, the concerns were gone. Once again GAD proved to be better than expected. There might not have been gut wrenching sub-bass, but there was sufficient musical bass for the average listener to be impressed. We fired up tombstone through the system and the horses running and gun-fire were awesome. The intelligibility of the system was excellent. I won't mention the brand of speakers that were replaced, but having used them in other spec bids I know what they can do. The GADs were easier to dial in and make things sound smooth. Aside from programming the processor for feedback control as a safety net for users doing silly things there was very minimal equalization required.
